Credit card debt/law firm or debt collector?

I%26#039;ve written before but my aunt got a letter from a law office it says but then in the letter it states that this letter is from a debt collector and the other thing, this letter was sent to an address she hasn%26#039;t lived at in over 4 yrs, just happen to get the letter cause a relative still lives there (actually MY mother-in-law) anyway how do you know this isn%26#039;t just another debt collector or if its really a lawyer, are they fixing to sue, etc...she is in a nursing home, owns no property and does have a small amount left in her checking acct. which won%26#039;t last long paying her nursing home bill. Should she write them a letter giving them permission to speak to me (i%26#039;m poa) or what, they have never sent a letter to her correct address, which the credit card company does have, hope this makes sense and someone can give offer me their opinion. Thanks.

Do her bills and everything goto the other address? If so, next time a bill from that place comes send it back as %26quot;Return to Sender. Not at this address%26quot;.

If you do want to acknowledge the receipt, then tell them you dispute the amount, and to validate it. If it is a collection agency they CANNOT say they are lawyers unless they actually are.
