Okay I admit I screwed up and went on a spending fee while in college and now I%26#039;m paying for it. I recently got laid off from my job, but this didn%26#039;t stop the bills from coming. I%26#039;ll tried ever thing in my power to set up a payment plan with my credit cards but now that I%26#039;m behind and most of the cards are in collection nobody want to work with me. Most of my credit cards are with a debt management program and some I%26#039;m making the minum payment, but there are some that are in collection and I don%26#039;t like the way the reps talk to me. They%26#039;re telling me that the account must pay the full amount as if I%26#039;m made of money. I%26#039;ve explained to them that I can%26#039;t do this, but was willing to set up a payment plan. One credit card in collection I owe $1297.25 on it, but when I told them I could pay $25 to $30 a month until other credit cards are paid off and I%26#039;ll raise the amount they laugh in my face. Their offer was to settle and pay $800.00. I can%26#039;t do this. I have other bills to pay! Please help!

Well my husband and I had this same problem from debts he incurred before we were married. I would recommend finding a good not for profit credit counseling agency. They helped up pay off a 13000 dollar debt by arranging to stop late fees and lower interest rates. You do have to agree to incurr no new credit during this time. In the long run with the right agency it can be a great program. You can look online for one in your area.

well, you used their money..now they want it make. You make a mistake they aren%26#039;t going to sympathize with you. The best thing is just look for a job, asap, maybe get a full time job and a part time one. and start saving.

Depending on how long ago the spending spree was, you could try and return all of the items you purchased. That would take care of the probleme easily. If it has been to long to return everything... ebay. It will get you alot of the money you are looking for. Yes it will be hard to get rid of these things, but you have to look at it logicaly and ask your self if those items are worth destroying your life over.

Tell them you can pay $25.00 per month...and then pay them..... they do not have to accept it ya know........but if they try to take you to court at least you will have the receipts that you are trying to pay them off....... cut up your cards..... you have learned a valuable lesson here.....

I don%26#039;t know your income (and don%26#039;t want to know) but if you can pay more than the minimum DO IT! Lets say the minimum is $25.00 per month, well at that rate you%26#039;ll be paying for about 30 + years.

So what you do is first stop using the card, agree with them to pay the minimum every month, but make two payments every month and keep track of it. Pay $50.00 each month and as long as the co. accepts your payments there is nothing they can do to make you pay any more and you will pay them off in a lot quicker time.

I am so Glad I no longer have debt and it sucks these companiess will not work with you..I had a companie a year a go had me in tears all I wanted to do was pay on a payment plan what I could afford.They would not budge they wanted well over what I could come up with.. so I sued the collection company and won and I got a deletion off my reports...We do have rights you know..I wanted to pay they did not want to accept a payment.

Go to Greenpath Debt Solutions. They can help you come up with a budget and help you solve these problems. If they think you are in over your head, they will refer you to a REPUTABLE bankruptcy attorney then.

The attorney can even help you settle accounts without bankruptcy if that is what you want. My atty does that for a far, far, far smaller fee than all the advertised places.

I had to file bankruptcy though and it was a breeze and I do not regret it one bit.

Not all collectors will be willing to work with you....some are ruthless. Some will work with you.

Okay, here is the deal. First, realize these companies know this in advance, that is why they charge crazy interest rates. They get more money out of you. They are borderline loansharks, and are right on the border of illegal practise. If they will not accept your deal, STOP PAYING THEM. Change your phone number, throw their letters in the trash, and DO NOT CONTACT THEM FROM THIS POINT ON. Your credit will suffer for a few years, but believe me, once the statue of limitiations is over, these predators will once again be sending you deals in the mail for credit cards. They have insurance for nonpayers, and charge skyhigh interest rates for the 70percent of people who are crazy enough to pay them.
